Dealing with a urinary tract infection. What causes it and the cures.

By Michelle Macdonald

Women who have a urinary tract infection are experiencing a very painful condition. They may be having mild, moderate or severe symptoms.

These symptoms include burning and pain during urination and a strong urge to go more often than usual. Women typically experience infections like these for around five days.

Symptoms like fatigue, fever and abdominal pain can often accompany infections like these. Mild conditions can be treated with over-the-counter painkillers and an antibiotic.

Sometimes the condition will run in families, where many women in the family suffer from frequent bouts with the condition. When this is the case, preventative measures can be taken.

You should always consult with a physician and receive a diagnosis when you believe you may have a UTI. This condition affects women more than men because the female body is structured in a more compatible way. Sometimes the condition can be passed down through the family. Women in this type of family will experience the condition more often and to a greater extent than other women.

Women who suffer from this condition more frequently than others will often try a six month prescription of antibiotics that are designed to reduce the amount of infection-causing bacteria. The kidneys and the bladder are two common types of infections that are associated with UTIs.

Women should leave the diagnosis up to a doctor. Kidney and bladder infections can become very serious if they are left untreated. Organs in the body can suffer permanent damage. Have the condition treated as soon as you see symptoms. The earlier it is treated, the better chance of successfully getting rid of it.

Having a urinary tract infection that is not treated quickly can lead to other problems. Vomiting and nausea are two symptoms that should not be ignored. These are signs that the condition is getting much worse. Some infections heal on their own but most require some kind of medication and treatment.
